AZCentral – Tempe’s 3rd Polar Bear Plunge aids people with needs

Denise Rentschler, a resident of The Lakes of Tempe and founder of non-profit Team Asa, says she is hoping for a bigger turnout than in previous years for the third annual Polar Bear Plunge at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 — even though, she acknowledges, the first two blew away her expectations.

Thanks to donated bike, blind student can race

For 9-year-old Joaquin Valencia, life is about facing more challenges than your average kid. He was diagnosed with retinoblastoma at 11 1⁄2 months old and became completely blind at 6 months old.
